Mayer's Wes Smith Receives National Recognition
Mayer Electric Supply’s President, Wes Smith, recently received the 2014 NAED Distributor Distinguished Service Award at the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) awards banquet in San Francisco. The award recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to both the electrical wholesale-distribution and NAED.
In Smith’s introduction as recipient of the 2014 NAED Distributor Distinguished Service Award it was cited that he was an active participant on numerous NAED committees and councils and in the industry’s education programs. In addition, his eagerness to share his knowledge for the betterment of the industry was mentioned as well. Smith believes that participation within the industry is part of Mayer Electric Supply’s sharing culture which is crucial to the company’s success and growth. He says “We’re happy to share what we do with the industry because it may help make us all better.”
Wes Smith’s first experience in the electrical business was as an electrician in the Air Force. He has spent 25 years with Mayer starting out in the warehouse and working his way up to the top of the company. He held roles in the internal audit group, the quality department, and as the CIO and COO before becoming President. His experience with different roles within the company along the way prepared him to take his current leadership role in the company. Smith said, “I learned a lot about everything it takes to serve our customers.”
Mayer Electric Supply is a wholesale-distributor of electrical equipment and supplies, lighting, factory automation, tools and communications. The company serves contractors, industrials, utilities, commercial businesses and institutions with new construction and maintenance components, parts, equipment and supplies. Mayer is a third-generation, family-owned business founded in 1930. Mayer is among the largest electrical distributors in the United States with 51 locations in nine states and $672 million in sales. The company employs over 1,000 associates.
